Annual Lecture 2016
The AGM will be followed by the Annual Lecture. This year BHRS is delighted to welcome
Dr Nicholas Bennett
who will speak on
Some Bedfordshire sidelights on the Lincolnshire parish clergy
3pm on Saturday 24 September 2016
Priory Methodist Church, Newnham Road, Bedford
Dr Bennett is Visiting Senior Fellow of the University of Lincoln, General Editor of the Lincoln Record Society and was, before his retirement, Vice-Chancellor and Librarian of Lincoln Cathedral.
Dr Bennett is working on a biographical register of the parish clergy of Lincolnshire 1214-1968 for the Lincoln Record Society. The first volume of the register covering the Deaneries of Aslacoe and Aveland was published in 2013. The second volume, published in 2016, covers the Deaneries of Beltisloe and Bolingbroke. The register has been acclaimed as a reference resource for church historians generally, as the Diocese of Lincoln historically cut a swathe through central England from the Humber to the Thames. The importance of the Diocese of Lincoln to Bedfordshire’s church history makes Dr Bennett’s talk of special interest.
The lecture is open to BHRS members and non-members alike, free of charge.
