Membership
Membership is open to anyone who supports the aims of the Society and new members are always welcome. Members are entitled to:
- receive a copy of each year’s new volume, posted free of charge
- purchase ebooks at a discounted rate
- attend the AGM and annual lecture
- stand for membership of BHRS Council
BHRS is a member of the British Association for Local History (BALH) (opens in a new window) and BHRS members may take advantage of members’ rates for BALH events and purchases.
BHRS owns the Fowler Library which is on deposit at the University of Northampton Library, where it is available to BHRS members and to the wider public.
Annual Membership runs from 1 April to 31 March.
The subscription rates are:
- UK individuals £12
- UK organisations £16
- Overseas individuals £13
- Overseas organisations £17
From 2024 the subscription rates will be:
- UK individuals £20
- UK organisations £25
- Overseas individuals £20
- Overseas organisations £30

In order to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into force on 25 May 2018, members need to be aware that data (their name and street address) is passed to the Society’s publishers, Boydell & Brewer and its distributor, Wiley Distribution Ltd, for use in sending out membership volumes. Unless we hear from members to the contrary, it will be assumed that this arrangement is acceptable.
